I want your ideas for Asbury Park's "Endless Summer"

Friends of Asbury Park:

I am writing to update you on the progress of the Endless Summer project that I wrote you about in April. We had our most recent meeting this past Wednesday and here is the status of the project.

BACKGROUND
The goal of the Endless Summer project is to create a calendar of 52 weeks of significant entertainment events that will take place in Asbury Park from Memorial Day weekend 2009 through May 25, 2010.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
During our meeting last week we laid out the calendar month by month and identified a list of "significant" events (see below). By significant, we mean events that are drawing or will draw thousands of people into our city. As you will see in the calendar, we have a need to create new events for January, February, March, May, October, November, and December and we certainly can use additional events in the months where we already have things happening.

Here is how you can get involved. Do you have an idea for a major city event? If so, create your proposal, include the following information and email it to me at james.keady@cityofasburypark.com.

NAME OF EVENT:
DATE OF EVENT:
LOCATION OF EVENT:
DESCRIPTION OF EVENT:
SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES:
SUGGESTED MAJOR SPONSORS FOR EVENT:

Don't be held back by anything, if you have an idea, even if you think, "we could never pull this off" do not let that stop you, send it to me! To give you a sense of what a proposal might look like, here is an event that I am going to run by the committee at our meeting this week.

NAME OF EVENT: ASBURY PARK'S "RING IN THE NEW YEAR" PARTY

DATE OF EVENT: DECEMBER 31, 2009

LOCATION OF EVENT: CITYWIDE/DOWNTOWN

DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: Asbury Park's "Ring in the New Year" Party will be a night of music, food, dance and revelry to ring in the New Year. All Asbury Park restaurants, bars and social halls will be encouraged to participate and offer food and drink specials and have entertainment throughout the night. At 11:45pm we will encourage the City's partygoers to join together in Press Plaza for the first annual (something) to countdown and ring in the New Year.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES
* Headlining Band to ring in the New Year in Press Plaza;
* 1 Mile "Ring in the New Year" Run to finish in Press Plaza;
* Making a human 2009 in Press Plaza for an aerial shot from the Steinbach's building;
* Trolley's to help people get to the downtown;
* Fireworks over the Casino.

PROPOSED MAJOR SPONSORS: NJ Transit, Stolichnaya Vodka, Budweiser, Jersey Shore Running Club, Asbury Park Press.

Ok, so now you have a sense of what we are looking for - start brainstorming some ideas and get them over to me.

In closing, I am encouraging you to NOT debate this issue on the message board. Just send me your ideas if you have them. If you do not have any ideas and do not want to be involved, that's cool, just delete this email and keep moving forward with your day. :)

Again, the calendar is below. I am looking forward to getting your emails and reading your ideas.

Peace, Councilman Jim Keady
